Caught on Twitter: Karl Rove Thanks Blogger for Trashing Meghan McCain

On Monday, I wrote about Meghan McCain's critique of Karl Rove's Twitter feed, among others. To make a point about the right's deranged reaction to Meg, I linked to a particularly vicious rant by conservative blogger The College Politico. In the 12 paragraphs of his post, the guy calls her an imbecile, idiotic, clueless, and compares her to a 5 year-old.
As far as I know, Karl Rove hasn't publicly responded to Meghan's Daily Beast column, but I have learned that he did read The College Politico's anti-Meg screed, and was pleased.

Yes, Karl, it must be nice to have people willing to attack a colleague's daughter on your behalf.
It should surprise no-one that Rove would approve of this, and that's the point.
The GOP is selling itself with people like Rove, Gingrich, Limbaugh, and Cheney as its figureheads, while alienating normal people like Meghan McCain.
Conservatives are blowing a golden opportunity with Meghan McCain. She could be the best thing to happen to the GOP since Ronald Reagan. She's a Republican that people actually like. She's young, funny, beautiful, and outspoken, utterly without guile. She's quintessentially American. You don't have to rearrange your whole platform to say you like Meg.
ISU columnist Matt Spialek gets it right, calling Meg "The True Maverick":

Now before I praise Ms. McCain for her bold blogging skills that any chimpanzee could do, I must say I find the response to her work humorous. Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity blow a gasket over a girl whose only claim to fame is that her daddy got blown out of the water in a presidential election. Why would these conservative crusaders care what words came from Meghan McCain's mouth? All the shouting-down and name-calling in the world isn't going to make people love Meghan McCain any less. All the GOP is doing now is squandering a gift that only she seems to possess these days: The ability to make new Republicans.
It is because she is speaking for our generation - a group of individuals disgusted with partisan politics. We see past the red state, blue state mentality and the bickering from both sides.
