I think reasonable people can argue whether waterboarding is torture. It creates pain and unpleasantness, and the Wikipedia article is worth reading, but even more so the discussion. All in all it's not something I would like us doing, but if the alternative were if lives were at stake in another 9/11 style attack as Dick Cheney asserts, and all other options were fruitless, I personally would sign the go-ahead, and so I won't second guess the decision then.
But since it is admittedly close to the line, it shouldn't be done without approvals all the way up and down the line on both sides. And that's apparently exactly what was done. As Hoekstra writes in a WSJ editorial:
It was not necessary to release details of the enhanced interrogation techniques, because members of Congress from both parties have been fully aware of them since the program began in 2002. We believed it was something that had to be done in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks to keep our nation safe. After many long and contentious debates, Congress repeatedly approved and funded this program on a bipartisan basis in both Republican and Democratic Congresses.
I'm going to be very interested if she continues to double down on her being in the dark statement, or she modifies it in some way. It seems like the type of thing that would be very easy to prove one way or the other and Hoekstra acts like he has the goods.
And if he's right, Pelosi's statement is either partisan hackery that we can dutifully ignore, or she was incompetent then. I pick the former, but madam speaker can pick her own poison.

Of course she knew and she lies so easily, why even ask her. The democrats will do anything now to take attention away from the horrible way they are destroying our government. They know the American people are already tired of what they voted into office, so look for a lot more mud slinging. At the same time, they are inviting more attacks like 9/11 and they probably will be coming soon.

Not only was I never mayor of a city -- I was never even President of the P.T.A..............
I was never governor of anything -- much less one of the 57 States in the U.S....
I never had a real job..............
I've never been responsible for balancing a budget or turning a profit..............
I never owned a business.....but.....I was once a community organizer...............

Wrong Dave! "Reasonable" people do not argue whether waterboarding is torture or not. Our own history of prosecutions, US law and International law are all very clear on the subject. There is no legitimate debate about the legal or moral disposition of waterboarding. It is 'torture'.

Here we go now the walls are coming down, and the republican cockroachs are trying to find a way to spread the blame. Well it won't work, being brought up to speed on a program is not giving your ok. Being told this is what we are going to do is not the same as having a choice in the matter. The GOP controled both house's at the time, and for Pelosi to run to the press would be treason. Even though shame on her, it was her duty to do something.
This subject is getting hotter by the hour, now it seems the reason for the torture was not to get new intel. The reason for the torture is the age old reason most people use torture, to get a false confession. The Bush/Cheney white house want these top terrorist to confess that there was a link with Saddam/Osama and 9/11. An after the fact justification for their illegal war when it seemed the fact that there was no WMDs as they knew.

What's more, she added, Mr. Assad was ready to "resume the peace process" as well. Having announced this seeming diplomatic breakthrough, Ms. Pelosi suggested that her Kissingerian shuttle diplomacy was just getting started. "We expressed our interest in using our good offices in promoting peace between Israel and Syria," she said.
“Only one problem: The Israeli prime minister entrusted Ms. Pelosi with no such message. "What was communicated to the U.S. House Speaker does not contain any change in the policies of Israel," said a statement quickly issued by the prime minister's office. In fact, Mr. Olmert told Ms. Pelosi that "a number of Senate and House members who recently visited Damascus received the impression that despite the declarations of Bashar Assad, there is no change in the position of his country regarding a possible peace process with Israel." In other words, Ms. Pelosi not only misrepresented Israel's position but was virtually alone in failing to discern that Mr. Assad's words were mere propaganda.”
Meanwhile, in a further example of treasonous idiocy, Pelosi is giving support to Assad’s violent interference in Lebanon, ignoring the UN, US policy and common sense:
“We can thank the US speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, for having informed Syrian President Bashar Assad, from Beirut, that "the road to solving Lebanon's problems passes through Damascus." Now, of course, all we need to do is remind Pelosi that the spirit and letter of successive United Nations Security Council resolutions, as well as Saudi and Egyptian efforts in recent weeks, have been destined to ensure precisely the opposite: that Syria end its meddling in Lebanese affairs.”
Amazing how much stupidity she manages to cram into one trip!

There is more than enough evidence here to impeach Pelosi on treason charges. There are also other possible charges:
“The Logan Act makes it a felony and provides for a prison sentence of up to three years for any American, "without authority of the United States," to communicate with a foreign government in an effort to influence that government's behavior on any "disputes or controversies with the United States." Some background on this statute helps to understand why Ms. Pelosi may be in serious trouble.”
Meanwhile, this adds to the list of recent Democratic Congressional corruption linked above. It seems Feinstein siphoned off billions of dollars of military funding to her husband’s companies while she was chairman of the military appropriations sub-committee. She has resigned, but as she’s a Democrat, it looks like that’s going to be the extent of her fall from grace.
This must be that “culture of corruption” thing Pelosi and Reid pretended to be against in order to gain control of Congress.

I'm amazed that Pelosi's botoxed face hasn't crack from the lying...she was not only given a tour of one of the CIA's black sites but was also briefed about waterboarding during the same tour.
I cannot imagine the outcry from citizens if they found out that the CIA had a major terrorist in captivity who knew that Los Angeles was being targeted for destruction, and sat by and did nothing but read him his rights. There would have been calls for impeachment, and everyone on this board knows it!
