Bill Clinton Returns the Favor for Terry McAuliffe

    Posted:
    04/27/09
Former DNC chair and all-around nutcase Terry McAuliffe has spent the entirety of the last two decades shilling for the Bill Clinton juggernaut. He has sung the man's praises and raised oodles of money for his two presidential campaigns, his private foundation, his chosen Congressional candidates, and Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

So it wasn't that much of a surprise when Clinton made an endorsement in the hotly contested Democratic primary for the Virginia Governor's race this morning ...

Former president Bill Clinton told a crowd in downtown Richmond that his best friend Terry McAuliffe should be elected the next governor of Virginia to get the economy back on track.

"He was made for this moment,'' Clinton said. "He's been a great businessman. He's been a terrifically effective political leader. He has energy, and he cares."

"Look, everyone knows he is one of my closest friends," Clinton told the crowd of about 400 people. "So look, I'd be here regardless. Everyone knows that. The press says, 'Oh well, Terry McAuliffe has raised million of dollars for Bill Clinton. He has to show up.' And that's absolutely true. . . . But here's what I want to tell you. I am here today for reasons that go way, way beyond that."

Right. Like, for instance ... the man is so loyal that he continued campaigning for Hillary even after she had conceded the presidential race to Barack Obama.

Anyway, as an aside, we think it's pretty bad news for Terry McAuliffe that he threw a free public rally in downtown Richmond featuring Bill Clinton, and only 400 people showed up.

Maybe if he had ridden his mechanical bull again, he could have drawn a bigger crowd.
