Pro-Life Senator Slams Sebelius for "Fatal Character Flaw"
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), at left, went to the Senate floor moments ago to slam Health and Human Services nominee Kathleen Sebelius for her pro-choice position on abortion. Coburn, himself an OB-GYN, called Sebelius' position on late-term abortion "a drastic and fatal character flaw," and added, "I believe that's a disqualifier."
He finished by saying he will mark her confirmation by the Senate as "another signpost on our way toward oblivion as a nation."
The Capitolist will be following today's debate on Sebelius today, and will keep fellow Caps posted....expect a vote this evening.

Mr.Coburn is from my state, and wow I get to be the first to post! I dont always agree with the Republicans, but on this one I have to agree with him, I cannot sanction late term abortions.

YOU MAY INDEED BELIEVE THAT BEING A CHRISTIAN HAS NO PART IN INTELLECTUAL LIFE OR POLITICAL LIFE. I WILL TELL YOU THIS AND I BELIEVE IT I DID NOT WRITE IT GOD DID. JESUS SAYS I AM THE WAY! THE TRUTH! THE LIFE! NO ONE COME TO THE FATHER BUT BY ME.(JESUS) NOW I KNOW AS AN ENLIGHTENED INDIVIDUAL WITH ALL OF THE PHILOSOPHIES OF THE WORLD AVAILAABLE TO YOU YOU PROBABLY DO NOT BELIEVE THIS BUT THERE IS ONE THING I DO KNOW I KNOW WHERE I WILL SPEND ETERNITY BECAUSE I BELIEVE THIS AND NO ONE CAN TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME. WHAT MAKES ME REALLY SAD IS THAT SO MANY PEOPLE WILL LIVE ETERNALLY SEPERATED FROM THE GOODNESS OF GOD BECAUSE THEY REFUSED TO BELIEVE THIS.

We the People are guaranteed separation of church and state, for many good and just reasons. I want my leaders well-versed in modern sciences and logic - neither of which have much to do with religion, honestly. I'm very tired of Christians thinking they are the only way - when you're "thinking" is based on an outdated book of parables of fear-based conformity, and the invisible man in the sky is watching, you shouldn't have anything to do with governing people of all beliefs, colors, nationalities, etc. If you want to have a personal relation with God, that's personal - not to be forced on the rest of the country.

This is a matter of morals no matter what religion or non religion you are. But I guess that is the problem with the people in this world. Blame the Christians, that's the easy way out. You don't have to believe in God to think this is wrong. It just is, Period. This world is going to Hell and I can guarantee you that's one thing you can't blame them for!

Wow, that was the most articulate description of the fear based religous belief system. I agree we have to keep religion out of our government. I am tired of the character assaults on anyone who is utilizing a LEGAL MEDICAL PROCEDURE.

When our only son was about to be born, our OBGYN physician came to me to offer to terminate the delivery as he said our son had water on the brain and would be an invalid for life.
We had no indicators of this during the pregnancy so I said No! and we had our baby.
He is now th father of our only grandchildren.
I often wonder how many legal or illegal late term abortions denid parents of normal children and the grandchildren they would have parented.

Will Kathleen Sebelius speak out in the interest of the people or will she be a mouthpiece for the pharmaceutical medical establishment like all the rest?

Finally a well qualified person as HHS Secretary. This is a very intelligent woman with an open mind and great leadership qualifications.
The Republican Party is directed by a bunch of right wing religious fanatics (they gave us Palin). They are out of touch with the modern world and seem to want to join the Taliban in returning to the 7th century. They hate Mormons and Muslims.
They fail to realize that as time goes on the Muslim population will, at the present rate, outnumber Christians, for sure southern white evangelican christians.
My point is that the world is changing, the Bible is an old book written by men , about men, for male dominance.
Look at the number of mistruths in our 24/7 news cycle, how many mistruths are in the Bible?
