Republicans are wasting no time in repaying the favor to Sen. Arlen Specter, who jumped ship from the GOP yesterday and received President Obama's endorsement at the White House this morning.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee has ordered 100,000 robocalls over the next 24 hours to tell Pennsylvania Democrats, yes registered Democrats, how fond President George W. Bush once was of Sen. Arlen Specter (pictured together in 2007).
In the call, a man named Jack says he wants "to properly introduce" Arlen Specter to the Democrats of Pennsylvania and gives this quote from President George W. Bush about Specter:
"I'm here to say it as plainly as I can, Arlen Specter is the right man for the United States Senate. I can count on this man - see that's important. He's a firm ally when it matters most."
There's something sort of twisted, and possibly effective, in Republicans using George Bush's endorsement as a weapon against a candidate who was a Republican until yesterday.
Regardless, The Capitolists put this at the top of the 2010 races to watch, and that race clearly starts today.

Specter has an established record of 29 years. I don't think this will have the damage they are looking for. Time will tell.

Man the GOP is really showing their colors. They would have done better in this political climate, to just shut the hell up. Silence is, occasionally, golden. But, they once again show how out of touch they are with where American society is these days. Pathetic bunch.

from formerly kathy: I personally think he will be seen as a Benedict Arnold, he will not be liked by the Republicans and will NOT be trusted by the Democrats.

In a way, it's poetic justice. The Dems used Bush's words of praise for John McCain against him in the Presidential campaign. Now, the Repubs are using Bush's words of praise against the Democrat/Republican/Democrat Arlen Specter. Turnabout is fair play, after all.
