Sometimes when you listen to politicians your head just starts to spin. Fresh off the news that a faction within the Republican party had formed the "National Council for a New America" in an effort to repackage, rebrand, and generally refresh their message to the American people, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor took to the airwaves to make sure that everybody knew the new PR offensive had nothing to do with PR:
"An attempt to engage and start a conversation with the American people." Fair enough. But after having a non-stop debate between the parties over the past years that culminated in a decisive November election, and given the fact that we still see no substantively different ideas coming from the Republican camp (freedom good, taxes bad) what else can the "National Council for a New America" be but rebranding writ large? Kind of like New and Improved Republicans, now with Hope and Change!
In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around.
