People at both ends of this argument make me want to barf, and all parties involved are harming the cause of gay rights.

Miss California's attack on thousands of marriages is now available for all to see, and instead of stupid gay thunderstorm imagery, it makes handy use of Carrie Prejean's victimization:

The ad cleverly accuses advocates of gay marriage of distraction, while using distraction. Lost to the viewer is the fact that neither Perez Hilton nor the Miss California organization really has any skin in this game, as far as activism goes.

So, what does Countdown with Keith Olbermann do to help out? They make jokes about her tits and compare her to a nazi. No, I am not kidding:

I know that to a lot of liberals, bashing Carrie Prejean is just a good time, but this is horrible messaging for the gay rights movement. You can argue that since Prejean morphed from ordinary opinion-haver to policy advocate, her brains are fair game. But what do her breasts have to do with anything? This is fine talk for the watercooler or the locker room, but a newscast?

Plus, Olbermann and Musto's outrage about Prejean's boob job is as fake as...well, you get it. Any guy who's really being honest will tell you that the key is not authenticity, but tangibility.

Listen, my fellow liberals, Carrie Prejean is a pretty woman, and Americans don't like it when you beat up on pretty women when they don't deserve it. She didn't deserve Perezs Hilton's bigoted attacks. She doesn't deserve to have her breasts ridiculed. I'm not even sure she deserves to be argued with, really.

She does deserve an apology from Perez Hilton. While she may never deliver the apology she owes to all of the couples whose marriages she seeks to put asunder, it is worth remembering that you cannot defeat an opponent if you refuse to be better than them.
