Michael Savage Banned From Entering UK

According to a list released by the British government, rabid right-wing radio host Michael Savage has been banned from entering the United Kingdom, along with several other undesirables:

Hate preachers, anti-gay protesters and a far right US talk show host are among a "named and shamed" list of people banned by the Home Office from entering the UK, it was revealed today.

Jacqui Smith, the home secretary, said she decided to make public the names of 16 people banned since October for fostering extremism so others could better understand the behaviour Britain was not prepared to tolerate.

US talk show host Michael Savage – real name Michael Weiner – is also excluded because of his views on immigration, Islam, rape and autism, which have reportedly caused great offence in America.

Savage is in good company, joined by the founder of neo-nazi website Stormfront, and by the head of the anti-gay, anti-US soldier Westboro Baptist Church.


I've tangled with both Savage and Westboro in the past, and I can't say I blame the British for not wanting these pieces of shit in their country, but I gotta ask: Haven't you guys ever heard of the First Amendment?

In all seriousness, I don't agree, in principle, with banning people for engaging in non-criminal speech, but that's their country. While it certainly sends a message, I'm not sure about the deterrent factor here. Aside from having to boil his own mutton and settle for the less-threatening baseball hooligans, where's the punishment for Michael Savage?
