Does Obama Love America's Media?

Whatever you think of the very popular new president Barack Obama, there is one aspect of this historical era we can all agree on: Does Obama care enough about our important Washington journalists?

After Saturday night's very exclusive White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, the answer appears to be so very clear.

Barack Obama loves our nation's reporters in D.C. He made jokes about them, but at the end, he proved he cared about America's newspapers. This president may be a hero, after all.

The great thing about the annual White House correspondents dinner is that it shows how much powerful politicians rely on U.S. media.

Sure, a modern president such as this Obama can make his own YouTube videos and create his own Internet, but he still needs Washington reporters to deliver his message to the poor people who don't yet have the Internet.

This is where our country's best-connected reporters really "show their stuff." First, they will basically kill anybody to get an invitation to the dinner, or at least to one of the many tragic cocktail parties before and after the Dinner.

Then, they will put on their best "formal wear" costumes and their very, very sexy dresses. This is a night to Dress To Impress, and nobody is worried about the "recession" or whatever. Tonight, D.C. sparkles!

Obama made some very funny "inside joke" remarks tonight, to his friends who run the media. This is what we professionals enjoy more than just about anything beyond a "hot rock" massage at the holiday spa.

Welcome, Barack, to our special club. We thought you might be socialist or whatever, but you are really just one of us.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
