Donna Brazile Has Meghan McCain's Back

An interesting alliance appears to have formed between John McCain's daughter Meghan and Democratic strategist Donna Brazile. This past Saturday, McCain was tweeting away (without a copy-editor), and left the following message for her 35,000-plus followers:

Donna Brazil [sic] said she would kick ass for me if anyone attacks my weight again - who doesn't love her?

It was conservative entertainer Laura Ingraham who recently mocked McCain's womanly curves, using a valley girl accent. Listen:

McCain, who appeared on "The View" shortly thereafter, had a few choice words for Ingrahm:

Here's Donna Brazile giving a bit more detail on how she became the subject of McCain's Saturday night tweet:

"I ran into Meghan McCain last night. And I have to tell you, Bill, she's refreshing, she honest and she's a face that could really help them galvanize young people and independents."

She would also help them moderate the party, which is an heretical idea for people like Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney. Brazile made her remarks on "State of the Union", where staunch conservative Bill Bennett also made some news by declaring that purists like Limbaugh and Sarah Palin were not the future of the GOP:

"One of the things the media could do -- some of the media -- is to move the debate off Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh. This is probably not the future of the Republican Party."

So, the debate rages on. Should the GOP expel those, like Meghan McCain, who advocate moderation? In the wake of is defection to the Democratic party, Arlen Specter stressed that he hadn't left the Republican Party, the party--with its rigid ideological bent--had left him.

Could the same happen to Meghan McCain? For now, she seems intent on fighting this battle from the inside.
