Our lo

ng national nightmare is over. After days of nerve-jangling uncertainty, California's parades and county fairs can breathe a little easier, step a little lighter.
Despite another
attack by TMZ and TheDirty.com, and a
raft of new pictures that definitely earn an R rating, Miss California Carrie Prejean will remain Miss California for the duration of her term:
Miss California USA can retain her crown even though she failed to reveal she had posed in her underwear as a teenager, pageant owner Donald Trump said Tuesday.
Carrie Prejean appeared by Trump's side as he made the announcement at New York's Trump Tower.
On the controversial photographs, Trump was philosophical:
"We are in the 21st century. We have determined the pictures taken are fine," he said, adding that "in some cases the pictures were lovely."
Funny that he recognizes that it's the 21st century, yet he still runs a beauty pageant.
Thus closes, hopefully, a bizarre political spectacle that saw clueless, classless interlopers tarnish the good and moral side of the fight to defend thousands of existing marriages, and millions of future ones.
Perez Hilton was, perhaps, the worst offender, dragging Carrie Prejean out of obscurity and onto the mast of th

e
hateful, cowardly NOM anti-gay flagship. He then hurled bigoted, misogynist insults at her, making her seem sympathetic even as she sought to destroy lawful marriages.
Then, websites like TMZ, TheDirty.com, and Radar tried to shame or humiliate her with a variety of photographs, even trying to make the case that she must be a hypocrite because she was
pictured drinking alcohol.
These arguments fail because being a Christian does not equal a failure to sin. Carrie Prejean is not wrong because she takes hot pictures, gets a boob job, or drinks with Michael Phelps. She's wrong because she's wrong.
Then, there were Miss USA and Countdown, making an issue of, and mocking,
Carrie Prejean's breast implants. Countdown panelist Michael Musto even
compared Prejean to a nazi. I'm willing to bet, however, that there are many beautiful blondes with breast implants who do support marriage equality for everyone, so I fail again to see the relevance.
Carrie Prejean is a 22 year-old political nonentity. She gets to be wrong. While her support of NOM is symbolically harmful, in reality the harm has been done by dilettantes like Perez Hilton, who trivialized an important issue by fighting it out on these cotton candy grounds.
