If you didn't know already, life is great for Oprah Winfrey. But just in case Duke University's graduating class didn't know that, Oprah took the time to tell to let them know."It's great to have a nice home. It's great to have nice homes! It's great to have a nice home that just escaped fire in Santa Barbara," she told them. "It's great to have a private jet. Anyone that tells you that having your own private jet isn't great is lying to you."
But, aren't there greater riches in life? Teachers provide valuable service, too, yet no teacher's salary is going to finance a private jet.
Though Oprah's no bonus-hoarding AIG executive, I'm not sure this was the right note to strike, especially given the state of the economy.
Yet I do give her points for telling the truth; she didn't claim she preferred riding in coach, living in a small house and driving an old beat up Ford Taurus (my apologies to Taurus owners).
Honestly, who wouldn't love riding in a $42 million jet? For all we know, she might turn out to be a savior of the private jet industry, including Bombardier Aerospace, her jet's manufacturer.
She also defined success as helping others become rich.
"How can I help somebody else move to higher ground? That is success." She also emphasized the need to make wise choices daily, saying, "Each of us has to stand in our own shoes. Will you stand in them in humility and compassion and courage? Every day will give you a chance to make that choice."
And that sounded a little better.
