He's made no indication of whether or not he's in the race, but former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani would destroy incumbent David Paterson if the New York Governor's race were held today.

Rudy holds a 54% to 32% lead over the Democrat in a new Quinnipiac poll, which most likely says more about Paterson than it does about the former Mayor.

Paterson, after all, has nightmarishly low poll numbers ... even lower than those of his disgraced predecessor, Eliot Spitzer, at his nadir.

But still, it would be quite a feat for Giuliani to vault into the Governor's office in Albany. That would give him a much more distinguished executive position, a return to national prominence, and a more complete resume. All of which would set him up to accomplish a long-held political aspiration ...

Amassing more than one delegate in the presidential primary race.
