I'm not familiar with the precedent of a former Speaker of the House accusing the current Speaker of the House of lying to the country, but
Newt Gingrich has done so today, in regards to
Nancy Pelosi's ridiculous accusations that the
CIA "misled" her yesterday.

According to
ABC News, Gingrich said:
"I think she has lied to the House, and I think that the House has an absolute obligation to open an inquiry, and I hope there will be a resolution to investigate her. And I think this is a big deal. I don't think the Speaker of the House can lie to the country on national security matters."
That was just one quote from his almost non-stop blistering critique of Pelosi's press conference yesterday.
Gingrich is terrific at generating publicity, and he does not shy away from using heated rhetoric, but this interview is different. Clearly, Gingrich is deeply concerned about the national security implications behind Pelosi's statements. He also -- wisely -- refused to speculate on whether or not this would benefit Republicans (a habit more politicians should mimic).
