Happy First Anniversary, Whitey Tape!

One of the highlights of my time surfing around, and writing in, the blogosphere was by far the 2008 Democratic primary campaign. Certainly in my personal top ten "OMG, They're Really Going to Nominate the Black Guy" moments came in the midst of the Reverend Wright controversy and was dubbed "Whitey Tape".

If you've been hanging around these parts for at least a year, you'll more than likely remember No Quarter blogger and former CIA agent Larry Johnson (stalwart Hillary supporter and proto-PUMA) startling revelation of a secret video that has an angry Michelle Obama in front of a mostly black crowd in Chicago, at Trinity UCC that included (gasp!) Louis Farrakhan saying disparing things about white people.

This past Saturday marked the one year anniversary of that bombshell.

This "story" ran like wildfire through the blogsphere - desperately seeking more evidence of Obama's hatred of White People - by both the left and the right. The right (and Hillary supporters) praying it was true and the left hoping to God it wasn't. It was even picked up by the MSM, most notably Fox News, who gave this wholly unsubstantiated rumor far more air time than it deserved. Heck, our own Lynn Sweet felt compelled to comment on it.

Obviously, this video never surfaced. Larry Johnson, who's pretty much been discredited by left, right and center blogs, still sticks by his story. After some prominent bloggers noted this anniversary, a miffed Johnson had this to say:
Since an attention-starved "journalist" named David Wiegel wote an article Saturday that memorializes my post a year ago on the so-called "whitey tape" - purported to show Michelle Obama using the term "whitey" - I've decided to re-post the two articles I wrote last year to refute any and all rumors. (See more articles posted today, via Memeorandum.com.) Why was the tape never revealed and used? One theory is that the hardline conservatives in possession of the tape did not want John McCain to win, a plausible theory given the hard right's reluctance in general to aid McCain's campaign.
So, where's the tape, Larry??? Good times.

Coming soon: Another anniversary: The DNC selects BHO and PUMA is born (May 31).
