Capitol Hill Bureau Chief
Good morning, Caps! The Senate is voting on credit cards, the House is hammering out climate change, the president will tell us what our cars are going to look like in the future, and you're going to know all about it. Here are the deets on those and other things you need to know about in Washington today:
10 a.m.: The House Energy and Commerce Committee continues its markup (that's a bill writing session) of climate change bill, including cap 'n trade. Since the lead Republican on the committee calls cap 'n trade a "straight jacket" and climate change a "theory that's never been proven," this will be a goodie. Also, come back to the Capitolist today to find out what Cap n' Trade actually is....
10 a.m.: The National Geographic Geography Bee kicks off! Get ready to be dumber than a 5th grader.
12: 15 p.m.: President Obama announces new fuel efficiency standards for cars. Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, a rumored SCOTUS shirt-lister, will be on hand.
1:00 p.m.: Michael Steele speaks at the Republican State Chairman's meeting in Maryland. Since this is the group that wants to rein in Steele's spending power, expect fireworks.
All day: Israeli Prime Minister, Benyamin Netanyahu meets with Members of Congress, including Sens. John Kerry and Richard Lugar, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader John Boehner, and others, as well as Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
Others on the Hill today, but not together: Leon Panetta, CA Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, actress Mia Farrow.
Those are the highlights, Caps. Come back today to see what you missed...
