Capitol Hill Bureau Chief
Good morning, Caps. A lot is happening on Capitol Hill and around town. Watch it for yourselves or come back to Politics Daily to see what you missed:
*All day- The Republican Chairmen's meeting continues. Expect a vote to "condemn the Democrats' march to socialism" instead of moving to call the Democrats "the Democrat Socialist Party."
*All day- Vice President Biden is in the Balkans.
*All day- The Senate debates an emergency spending bill for the Pentagon, including more discussion of what to do with Gitmo and the prisoners there.
*All day- The House debates the Credit Card Holder Bill of Rights.
*All Day- Georgetown University's Law School holds a conference on the "state of the judiciary," including speeches from Sandra Day O'Connor, David Souter, Elena Kagan and others.
9:30 a.m.: Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner testifies to the Senate Banking Committee on TARP,
as reports say some banks want to take off their TARPS and pay back the money soon.
*9:30 a.m.- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testifies to the Senate Appropriations Committee about the State Department budget.
10:00 a.m.- The House Energy and Commerce Committee continues its markup of climate change and cap & trade legislation. With just six of nearly 400 amendments dispensed with so far, we're wondering how the bill will be finished by Friday.
1:00 p.m.- Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA) speaks about Obama's Supreme Court picks. As the Dems' 59th vote, Specter's opinion is the one that matters.
4:30 p.m.- President Obama signs a bill to prevent mortgage fraud.
And finally, the National Geographic Geography Bee crowns its winner.
