I really have no business feeling sympathy for a wealthy, pretty, well-connected recent Columbia grad who's already been given a political blog by Tina Brown, who's already been paid a reported high six figures to write on the future of the Republican party, and who, despite it all, was foolish enough to go on "The Colbert Report" on Monday night and call herself "a 24-year-old pro-sex woman."
I suppose the success or failure of Meg's appearance on Colbert is a subjective matter, but it is easy to see that her guest spot is consistent with her public persona. She's proudly free-spirited and outspoken, and is known for mixing the political with the apolitical.
The piece goes on to compare her with 24 anti-heroine Kim Bauer, and goes downhill from there.
I think the NY times should write a hit piece about every member of my family. Already got 3 down, my 17 year old sister can be next. Such amazing journalism about 1 hour agofrom txt
This followed several other NYT-related barbs:
So apparently there was some oped in the NY times criticizing me, all I have to say is the NY Times will never write anything positive about anyone with the last name McCain... 10:45 PM May 22ndfrom web
but thanks for comparing me to Elisha Cuthbert NY Times, how hot is she? Total girl crush of mine! 10:46 PM May 22ndfrom web
My dad just belly laughed that the ny times compared me to jack bauers daughter on 24 because he always compares himself to jack bauer :-) about 1 hour agofrom txt
See, if the criticism had been done in a coherent, reasonable way, it might not have begged such easy comparison to that smear-job of her father. Neither is necessarily representative of the Times, but it is completely fair for Meg to bring them up.
This also touches on a discussion I've been having on Twitter about notions of feminism. Warner lists a series of things that Meg "can't do" with her position because they're "just stupid," but doesn't really explain how. Sure, claiming the Republicans are "an awesome party to be part of" isn't how someone like, say, Chairman Steele might say it, but that doesn't make it less appealing to Meg's audience.
Which, despite Meg's calls for moderation,. probably doesn't intersect that much with the Times'.
Watching President Barack Hussein Obama shake John McCain's son's hand at his Naval Academy graduation was such a thrill, and ironic. If the McCain's choose to make bitter comments about their devastating loss to President Obama, then they invite criticism.

No news here. The NY Times is just deflecting attention away from Nancy Peliesi. This latest Peliesi junket is a good one isn't it? She's in China claiming she's discussing human rights of all things.
Lady Torture talking human rights.....you can't make this up.

willet, right now china is toying with the idea of giving their citizens the benefits and retirement plans that we're losing in order to create the middle class security that the USA once took for granted. their ultimate goal is for china to replace the usa as the consumer society in the world market, by giving their citizens the incentive to spend more today. but thanx for your concern anyway.

Judith Warner's blog about Meghan McCain is spot-on. She has nothing to offer other than snotty little remarks about people she doesn't like, which seems to be anybody over the age of 25. Her hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me. When Laura Ingraham made a comment about McCain's weight, she over-reacted to the point of being utterly ridiculous. NO ONE is allowed to criticize the great Meghan McCain, but the great Meghan McCain trashes someone new just about every time she opens her mouth or puts pen to paper. Does this bratty child ever make criticisms that are legitimate? No, of course not. She doesn't have the depth or the smarts for that. She mainly sticks to trashing people because 1) They're too old or 2) They're not up to Meghan's COOL standards. This girl doesn't even have the good sense to realize how embarrassing she is.

MoutianDew, no baby, she is no tool like Bristol Palin. During this election the children of the REpublicans were singled out, and you know its true. Ms McCain has a right to say what she feels just like you do. And you dont have to go to Twitter to listen to her either. That crack about Bristol Palin tells me straight up that you are a died in the wool Democrat, need to start looking at both sides, maybe change your party to Independant - then you can broaden your mind.

I'm with Mr. Christopher on this one. I like her. After suffering years of Ann Coulter and months with Sarah Palin, which seemed like years, Meghan McCain is a breath of fresh air for the Republican party as opposed to the June Cleaverish facade presented by women who's very existence in the public eye seems to negate. When I see those two, I think of a variation of the indian's assesment of cowboys in the old black and white B westerns:
"White chicks speak with forked tongues!"
I don't always like what Meghan McCain says, but at least with her I know I'm getting Meghan McCain, not some plastic image of what some opportunistic, backstabbing, self absorbed bimbo thinks "real Americans" want to see and hear.

I often see this comment in reference to Meghan McCain: "She's such a breath of fresh air." Does it not matter to any of these fresh air people that Ms. McCain is, to put it bluntly, an asshole - and a stupid one at that? Or is "fresh air" all that matters? The mindset of some people is truly frightening.

Democrats love her. Republicans don't give a shit about her. Tommy wants to do her.
She's done the rounds on "Comedy Central", now the NYT is wasting space on her.
The day she shows up on "Meet the Press" is the day I shoot my TV.
Enough already.

I get a kick out of Meghan McCain being labeled a "Republican pundit". A pundit is usually someone who has some life experience enough to make intelligent observations. Of course she's outspoken, what's she got to lose??? Most of the stuff that comes out her mouth or pen sound like a bratty Valley Girl having a tantrum. "Oh, Daddy they're saying bad things about me...I'll get them." She's never had to work a day in her life, and now she's playing in politics. She reminds me of the children of actors who always say "I had to audition for my uncle like everyone else." Yeah, right.

meghan needs to stop all that right now! nothing about the republican party needs to change. they need to continue dying the slow death of one thousand self-inflicted stab wounds and gunshots to the foot/face.
oh god, it's so beautiful to witness the demise of the neoclowns, like watching an old pavlova clip of the dying swan, with epilepsy.
