CA Supremes Uphold CA Prop 8

    Posted:
    05/26/09
The California Supreme Court has decided to uphold the CA November 2008 ballot proposition - Proposition 8 - restricting the definition of marriage to opposite-sex couples and eliminated same-sex couples' right to marry.

Some 18,000 couples that had married before the referendum will retain their married status, but as of now, no new marriages can be performed.

Prop 8's contentious route through California's ballots and the judiciary has been marked by extreme rhetoric, huge demonstrations, some violence and tons of money spent by the Roman Catholic and Latter Day Saints churches.

We'll keep you posted on reactions from California and elsewhere as the news makes its way around.
