Lt. Dan Choi, the first soldier discharged under "Don't ask/Don't tell" during the Obama administration, was among protesters at a DNC fundraiser headlined by President Obama:

Protest organizers called for Obama to repeal the government's "don't ask, don't tell" policy that exempts openly gay men and women from serving in the military.

Lt. Dan Choi, a West Point graduate and an Arabic translator, was discharged from the Army when he declared he was gay on national television. His conviction that the military's policy is "a deadly poison" inspired him to lead the protest on Wednesday.

Here's video of Choi's speech:

Gay issues largely stayed under the radar during the 2008 Presidential campaign, but with states legalizing gay marriage like dominoes, and "Don't ask, Don't tell" weakening our military, President Obama is under increasing pressure to speak out on these issues, and take action.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
