Discharged Arabic Linguist Dan Choi Among Protesters at Obama Fundraiser

Why does the media still refer to this guy as lieutenant? He was discharged from military service, his title is now Mr.

I'm not sure where I stand on the "don't ask/don't tell" policy. If a soldier does reveal he/she is gay, I do believe it is wrong to discharge them (although it is a military policy, so more mixed feelings about that.) But there's a protection issue here that I haven't seen mentioned by anyone. Truthfully whether there was a policy or not and I had a gay son/daughter going into the military, I would beg them not to expose their orientation while in service. I'm sure there would be plenty of harrassment (or worse) for soldiers known to be gay. There are many people that fight for equal rights for the gay population, there are many that are indifferent. But there are still many haters and I would not want my gay loved one to have to count on one of those haters while serving this country.

GOP: brave guys like this are the future. Praise Him!!

This policy wastes the taxpayers money. We gave this man a terrific West Point education, it hurts only the taxpayer and the country when we discard pople like this man whose intelligence and patriotism led him to the academy and to serve in the first place.

Here we go again? A majority of americans do not agree with the gay marrage proposal. Most of the military disagree with gays in the military. Why force you beliefs on myself or fellow soldiers. You can not change my moral and religious belief that being gay is wrong. The choice is yours to make. We lock them away so why should we accept your life style. He knew he was gay when he joined so it was under deception that he joined the military. He should have to pay back what it cost to send him through training as well.

For what it's worth...Yes indeed, Dan Choi should be addressed as Mr. Choi and not by any military rank he achieved. Moreover, I really must agree with some of my fellow writers:

In typical special interest group fashion, we receive 'poster-boy' West Point graduate cum all-star who defecates rose petals! When in fact the opposite is true.

When one takes the 'Oath' (1) to become a commissioned officer in the United States military and, (2) to uphold ALL of regulations, policies, and procedures in protecting the welfare of the United States of America, one either takes the Oath 100% or they don't. No excuses, no accommodations, and no lowering the bar of acceptable standards.

Mr. Choi, had one choice to make; either go by the rules 'don't ask, don't tell' or break the rules which is what he elected to do. Far be it from me, but I believe the real motive behind Mr. Choi's decision rests in either a juicy book deal or better still, a feature film.

The guy hung himself. No ifs, ands, or buts about it; I feel that the military and those who brought this 'DADT' policy to the forefront (Wm. Clinton) was doing gay men and women a huge favor. As in Dan Choi's case he received a top quality education for free and was paid to boot! He was given a place to eat, sleep, study and all the materials that go with it.

Yet, this seemingly 'victim' of gay rights (what's that?)only showed how NOT fit he was to lead troops or follow them into battle. The boy disgraced the Senatorial endorsements he received and every other person who vouched for him from the community.
