Former Newsweek reporter Richard Wolffe's new book, "Renegade: The Making of a President," details some uncomfortable behind-the scenes wrangling about the selection of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, according to an excerpt on Huffington Post.
The excerpt describes a candidate eager to have Clinton on his team, but not willing to jump through hoops. On retiring Clinton's campaign debt:
"I'm not begging her to take this job," Obama told his senior aides. "If she wants it, I could help. But I'm not willing to go out in these difficult economic times to do a flashy fundraiser in California."
Obama made the decision to pick Clinton while the bitter primary battle still raged on, and over the objections of his staff::
"I don't hold grudges," he told his aides. "I don't worry about the past. I'm concerned about what happens now. If she can help me and Bill Clinton isn't too much of a liability, we should seriously look at this."
Get the new PD toolbar! Although the excerpt contains lots of praise for Hillary Clinton from Obama, it's the juicy quotes that will get the most play and revive dormant water-cooler debates.
I'm a little bit surprised to learn that the hard feelings from the primary campaign ran so deep. At the time, I thought that questions about Obama's and Clinton's ability to put the past behind them and work together were mainly a construct of their ardent supporters and a drama-loving media.
Still, as they say, all's well that ends well:
Several weeks into the administration, even Clinton's internal critics believed the relationship was a success. "They have both worked really hard at it," said one senior White House official. "There's a natural affinity and respect that ironically grew out of being opponents. You get to know someone really well after all that."
Obama is an arrogant schmuck plain and simple. He should be licking both Clinton's shoes after Senator Clinton accepted the job amidst his embarrassing tax evader hiring blitz that was a quick and accurate assessment of his flailing judgement.

BHO wasn't willing to go out and raise money to help Hillary, BUT he went, by Air Force One, to Las Vegas JUST to raise money for his BOSS, Harry Reid? After all, IF she had not helped him get that job, he never would have made it. What a revolting condition this USA is in!

Clinton Seeking Money To Pay Off Campaign Debt

The Bryant Park Project, July 11, 2008 · Former rival Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton appeared side by side at a fundraiser in New York City Thursday night. The event was held to fill the coffers of Obama's presidential campaign and to help Clinton retire over $10 million in debt from her own failed run.
Since dropping out of the race, Clinton and her staff have been reaching out to her former supporters through e-mail to encourage them to keep on giving. "I'm so grateful for all you've done for me — all the ways you have given your time, energy and financial resources. But today I am asking once again for your help ridding our campaign of debt so we can keep fighting together," reads one e-mail from Clinton.
It's clear why people donate to their favorite candidates during a race, but why would they continue to give once a candidate has dropped out?
Renee Fye, of Orlando, Fla., gave to the Clinton campaign during the nomination fight. After the candidate dropped out, Fye saw no reason to send money.
"I think it is admirable of her to want to try to pay it back, but since her campaign is over, I don't know what to tell her," Fye says. "As far as donating any further, I'm now shifting my support to another candidate."
Joseph Bringmanm of Seattle, Wash., says he was glad to donate while Clinton was running. But he's not about to write another check, "given the way the campaign was misdirected early on, when Clinton's campaign coffers were full," he says. "I'm not inclined to contribute further solely for debt relief."
For Donna Klein, a lawyer from New Orleans, the reason to keep donating is obvious. "To me, if you support what that person stood for ... and you were supporting them while they ran, then I don't know why you would stop supporting them once it's over," Klien says. "People are cheering her on and saying, 'Stay in,' and she does and it costs money. If you can afford it, whatever amount it is, I just think it's the right thing to do."
I know some time has passed, Maggie....but this is just one event...in which, Obama did lend his name and time, in order to help Hillary. Not to mention, he did donate some of HIS money to pay down her debt...but to you, this just doesn't matter, because it just isn't spicy enough of a story.
You would much rather lie and twist the truth.
