The map will probably end up with only DC voting yes. Must be all of Obamas' czars voting. If by feminism you are referring to organizations such as NOW, my vote is no! Those "women" are far left, and their views rarely converge with the conservative ideology. Very possibly, the only thing we have in common is a womans' right to choose, but even there the conservative populace generally would not agree to abortion beyond the first trimester.

The question should read "Do Liberalism and Capitalism mix?" Feminism mixes well with Conservatism,...if a woman works hard to provide for her family, then she should GET TO KEEP HER EARNINGS rather than have them taxed away to be given to welfare mothers and the politicians who buy their votes with more government handouts.

The Nat'l Organization of Women had Obama on their rag cover wearing a superman costume proclaiming 'This is what a feminist looks like!'
After this last election, when even Hillary accepted Obama's crumbs, liberal women have shown that deference to men is the root of all existence.
Good going, ladies!

Way to comprehend the idea that no political movement is a monolith, genius.
I voted for the Green Party Presidential candidate. Bet I'm not the only one, either. If the Dems ever want me back again they better stop treating me like garbage.

The tone of your comments leads my genius to believe that, no matter who you voted for, you are a dyed-in-the-wool (as in sheep) liberal.

What we call "conservative" in this country is the sociological-psychological level of human development known as absolutistic or black/white thinking. It has to do with following rules, believing in 'one true way', and adhering to tradition. So, no, being conservative in this country can never mix with thinking women are equal and have equal rights. Understanding that people of all colors, religions, genders and sexual orientation are equal and have equal rights is possible at another level of development, called relativistic or sociocentric. At that level the person does not attack or condemn people for being different, they correctly understand that the correction and punishment needs applying to those who do the attacking and condemning, as that is the harmful and unacceptable behavior.

I like your comment and it is very poignant!
Feminism was a needed movement to bring equality to women. It was a Socially Just Movement that was long overdue and was needed to overcome The patriarchal Structure of Fundamental Religions.

What a bunch of crap. Being conservative no more makes you a linear thinker than being liberal does. Whose definition of conservatism are you spouting? The left liberal handbook? Talk about not accepting those that are different! Conservatism is more that social values. In fact, the social values on the right are as varied as they are on the left. Conservatism is about fiscal responsibility, individual rights based on the rule of law in this country (at least for now), and the rights of the states to make laws not designated by the constitution to the federal government. You have a very close-minded, smug take on the politics of this country....in other words, you have a lot to learn.

I don't think abortion should be made illegal again, though I think the first trimester is long enough to realize you are pregnant and get appropriate testing if necessary. Women have had abortions since the beginning of time, and will continue to do so whether it is legal or illegal. The change in the law made it a medically safe procedure for middle and lower class women. Wealthy women have had access to safe abortion since the turn of the 20th century, and always will have access, regardless of the law. A return to the back alley abortionist puts young girls and women at risk for death, infection, hemorraging. A public health problem is created, as well as the questionable morality of a people who would chose death and disease for it's own women as punishment for sin. A far better solution for reducing abortions is for families and churches to teach young people that they will be expected to marry any partner they share a pregnacy with, that the baby, a family member, will not be abandoned to some young, uneducated girl to raise however she can. Making marriage the norm will improve a lot of things, like giving all children the stability of having a father guiding them and supporting them. Having a child is the most serious and life altering thing you can do, and you owe it to a baby to give it the life it deserves. I guess this means I'm a feminist, but I think I'm fairly conservative in most ways.

Why is abortion OK in the first trimester but not the second or third? A baby is a baby from the beginning. And abortion is MURDER in all forms. While I agree it will be a tough change for women, continuing to allow women to be this murder innocent lives only hurts us all in the end.

Yeah, it's real easy to figure out whether you want an abortion in the first trimester--if you know you're pregnant right away, if nothing goes wrong later in the pregnancy, AND if you live in one of the 15 percent of United States counties with an abortion provider.
If you're not doing your part to ensure that first-trimester abortion is freely available nationwide (not necessarily free of charge, but very easy to find as a service), don't bother judging anybody on whether or when they get the procedure done.

Abortion should only be used to save a mother's life and then and only then should it be her choice. Any other reason is just murder. I feel this way, keep it legal, but if you do have one,you get charged with murder. Sure it's your body and we can't tell you what to do with it, but remember females that is a life you carry inside you and you just murdered it and so you should go to prison for it. Adult females(there aren't many women these days)have abused the right to choice, they use it now for the means of birth control and for selfish reasons of not ready, can't afford it right now, didn't mean to get pregnant with THAT guy,I didn't want kids, etc. And for forcing a girl or adult female to marry the father of the baby is wrong too. It won't guarantee a father figure for the child, only a man who resents them and won't be there emotionally or physically for that matter. He'll be over friends's homes or clubbing or family anywhere but there. Females just need to keep their legs closed period.

Yeah, because pregnancy only happens when women open their legs--what are we supposed to do, put our legs in a sack and hop around all day? What about telling guys to keep it in their pants?
Abortion is murder? Then not being a blood donor is murder, and not being an organ donor is murder. The bottom line is that I don't have to be anyone's life support if I don't want to be. Born children do not have an automatic right to their parents' blood or organs. You think "unborn children" are exactly the same, right? There you go.
Don't get me wrong. I've had two kids. I love them both. But I will not allow ANYONE to force me to decide one way or the other. I also greatly resent the way this issue is used to feed the adoption industry--apparently women who "make mistakes" are brood mares for the rich now. That's disgusting. Get a dog. Leave us alone.

Ok very touchy subject ! Have you ever been raped? I have by the father of my children who refused to pay any portion of their necessary daily living expenses, who thought I should give him credit that other females wanted to sleep with him and him they, and that I should not divorce him. well I did and he still felt the need to force me and I got pregnant. I could not afford another child either financially (nope not on welfare)or emotionally. I chose what I thought would be the less detrimental to my children, (let them watch my belly grow then give the child away, then answer questions about would I do that to them). Oh and yes less detrimental to myself, not that I don't have regrets but I still don't see how I could have done anything else. Jane

now for the article. I don't exactly know what is meant by either word or liberalism. I've come to assume that feminism was for women's rights to vote, work, equal pay and opportunity, conservatism-meant values, strict laws, professionalism, pretty much a republican. Liberals-i've believed were the more free love kind of people, loose morals, for the poor. I never saw them as democrats, but during the recent elections and reading posts it seems that most believe all democrats are liberals. I am a democrat, but I'm not exactly liberal either. I'm more conservative. So with the term can feminism mix with conservative I say yes, cus what I get from that message is can women still be feminine and have strict moral, ethical values and I say yes. When I think of feminism and liberalism I think of women who can look feminine but want to basically be, act, dress and so forth like wh ores. I see women today, and I feel they have lost all sense of what a woman truly is and suppose to be. Females think that they can still command the respect we once had while having loose morals, dressing scantily, being promiscuous, and having abortions when their loose ethics get them into trouble. You wonder why men treat you the way they do. They don't have to treat you with respect anymore, they don't have to speak to you with respect, they don't have to earn anything anymore. You females just spread your legs the moment a guy says hey your hot, lets go to my place. You don't even think twice about it, you see nothing wrong with your behavior, and yet get all pissed off when he doesn't call you, or respect you in the morning. I hope you can get what I'm trying to say. I just saw on the news how teen girls are having sex for money, clothes, cell phones, jewelry etc. How can you say that we as women have progressed into strong respectful educated women when our little girls are only mimicing what they see adult females doing all around them especially hollywood, definitely rap videos, music, lyrics etc. REally females, you are going to tell me that material things are worth more than you, your dignity, self esteem, self respect, the respect of others and men. I'm sorry, but I'm teaching my dauther that not to follow Miley Cyrus and that she's a hoe and loose girl with loose morals and parents that are morons with a sick sense of parenting. We no longer watch her show, or buy any of her merchandise. I want my daughter to grow up with a strong mind and a strong sense of what a real woman is, a strong sense of who she is and where she's going. She won't be climbing the ladder on her knees and back. She's worth more than that, men won't be able to afford her.

It may yet eventually turn out that guys really are hardwired to want to work for everything they get, including a relationship with a woman. That quite aside, why is it that every time a man behaves badly, the woman is blamed for it, even by other women? If a guy doesn't call, that's because HE chose not to call. If he gets a woman pregnant, guess what, it takes two to make a baby. He played a part also, why isn't he being given nine shades of crap? We're supposed to care about "fathers' rights," but nary a word about fathers' responsibilities except for maybe demanding that he pay child support. Woo hoo, any idiot can write a check. Be there for the kids too? Oh, that's so *unmanly.* This is the kind of thing that messes up the relationship between the sexes, and it was going on WELL before the advent of feminism. The simple fact is that men almost never grow up and learn to cope with adult life. And we, decade after decade, century after century, give them a free ride and let them get away with it--and then we women turn on one another and fight one another rather than face the real enemy. The sad part is they're not supposed to be the enemy. They choose to be, and invent bullcrap reasons for doing it. Who cares who calls whom first? Who cares whether you have sex on the first or third date? When did these matters become deciding factors for whether to continue a relationship or respect a woman? When was the last time an average guy looked at a woman's character and personality instead? Half the personal ads I see prioritize a woman being "height-weight proportionate." That is the sum total of a man's values about women. But women are bad people for wanting to be wanted and loved. OK. Whatever, but don't expect the situation to improve any time soon with you over there throwing gasoline on the fire. Grow up.

Ok, now that the rant on abortion is over (sorry). How can a feminist not be conservative? They take care of themselves, work just as hard as any man, pays the same taxes etc... for less pay an hour. I hate the fact that I pay for half the medical care I give everyday. I hate the fact I had to put my daughters in daycare so I could work to support them. While other women got to stay home with their kids thanks to my tax dollars. I hate that a system that was supposed to be a short term assistance during times of crisis has turned into a way of living for some people. Yes I am conservative yes I am a feminist, get your liberal hands out of my pocket and let me take care of myself and my family and my community to the best of my ability.

Statistically, PERCENT MARRIED WOMEN 2005-2007 is a very conservative variable, being very strongly correlated with PERCENT REPUBLICAN SUPPORT in 2008 (R = + 0.669, P = 0.000). In contrast, the variables PERCENT UNMARRIED WOMEN 2005-2007 and PERCENT BIRTHS TO UNWED MOTHERS 2005 are very liberal variables, being very strongly correlated with PERCENT DEMOCRAT SUPPORT in 2008 (R = + 0.669, P = 0.000, and R = + 0.377, P = 0.006, respectively). Godly women who are faithful to GOD, their spouses, and their children tend to be conservative and happy, whereas godless women who are rebelious against GOD, are selfish, and are sexually immoral tend to be liberal and unhappy. The latter women are easy marks for godless sexual perverts and handsome but very wicked godless liberal demogogues.
