Sotomayor Breaks Ankle, Keeps Appointments with Senators

So many bad puns to be made about being "hobbled" by the confirmation process, so little time.

Suffice it to say Judge Sonia Sotomayor was not laughing this morning when she fell and broke her right ankle at New York's La Guardia Airport. Not to be knocked off her scheduled meetings with senators, however, Sotomayor flew to D.C., went to the White House for meetings and THEN went to the hospital. (We hear her destination was George Washington University Hospital, trauma center to the political stars, including President Ronald Reagan when he was shot and Vice President Dick Cheney when his ticker gave him problems.)

The result for Judge Sotomayor, as you can see, is a pretty hefty cast on her right leg, with a walking bootie, a set of crutches, and a purse-carrying aide to get around Capitol Hill. Here, she's on her way to meet with Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA).

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
