    A Clinic Closes. What Is the Message?

    Terrorism works.
    Despite the shock and sadness on both sides of the abortion debate when Dr. George Tiller was murdered, is that the true message of Tuesday's announcement from Tiller's family that his Wichita clinic will not reopen?

    A statement, issued through lawyers, said: "The family will honor Dr. Tiller's memory through private charitable activities."

    The suspect in Tiller's murder – while not admitting guilt – said in an interview on CNN that the closing of the clinic would be "a victory for all the unborn children."
    Do pro-life activists believe this turn of events is a victory? In USA Today, Operation Rescue leader Troy Newman denounced vigilantism while reaffirming his group's right to fight abortion. And in an interview last week with the New York Times, he said: "Good God, do not close this abortion clinic for this reason."
    "Every kook in the world will get some notion."
