You have got to be kidding? Get a real job for real men? What are *you*? A logger? Don't try to tell me Flight Attendants got picked for their looks. Until you pass the exams (both written and physical) you have no right to comment on their profession. In fact, it sounds like you are just jealous because you tried to become one and couldn't pass the standards tests. Flight Attendants are given bad names because of people like you and Letterman who have no real idea who they are. I know at least 5,000 Flight Attendants personally and many of them are also doctors (both medical and PhD), nurses, lawyers, photographers, etc. Many *choose* the job without really knowing how little pay and how many hours you have to put into it. But, once you are in it, it's just hard to picture doing anything else! I became a Flight Attendant in 2000. My first year, working full time, I made less than 15,000.00 BEFORE taxes. I have since received a 33% pay cut, a huge benefits cut, and yet, I still fly. Why? Because there is nothing else like it. I have been furloughed (laid off) and then left a 45K a year job to go back when recalled. Flight Attendants are made of rock and steel. We have to work ridiculously long hours and still try to be nice to the public (or at least not lash out at idiots like you, Bill), help the people on the plane within the resources given...we are in a flying metal tube, people...if we don't have it onboard, we cannot get it for you...save your ungrateful life (Bill) if necessary, and deal with your complaints and more frequently, whining and all of this for less money than you would make at a minimum wage job. We don't choose our uniforms, they are created for us by people who never have to wear them. And, I haven't seen a "slutty" uniform in YEARS. In fact, our uniforms cover more of us than most passenger clothing covers passengers. Even men.
SO,*BILL*, unless you are a logger - which, since you wrote something via the internet (not such great signals in a logging camp-and yes, Bill, I *would* know), you couldn't be - get off of your high horse about men being men. And if you ever want to know what it's like to be stuck in a ground hold during the height of summer in an aircraft with no power during a lightening storm in Dallas Fort Worth for over 5 hours with a group of passengers? Well, roll yourself in aluminum foil and lay in pit of hot coals while repeatedly hitting yourself with a small wooden spoon. Then, give yourself $30 and a bad health plan. Then, we'll talk.

Anyway, the problem isn't whether *I* am slutty or not. The problem is that because of statements (I hesitate to use the word joke - Letterman isn't that funny) like those, the public perception is that I am slutty. People do not take slutty people seriously. They are groped, petted, and laughed at. Not listened to.

If I am trying to tell someone on an aircraft that s/he needs to do something, the last thing I need is to have them thinking they do not have to listen to me because I am merely a slut. I happen to know thousands of flight attendants and can honestly say that the number of slutty individuals in our workgroup is about the same as in the general population. Doctors and attorneys are not thought of as sluts, are they? And yes, I *am* comparing FAs to them. We save lives up there. You got no one BUT us, so be glad we all have intense medical training. By the way? I also happen to be a nurse (RN, if you are curious) and I would rather make less money flying than make more working in hospice or hospitals. We also have way too much to memorize and keep updated on because they keep changing the safety equipment location on aircraft - I, personally, know where to locate all of the equipment on 6 aircraft (if you count the various modifications, that brings the number to 23). This means, that in an emergency, I can save your life or prevent the need to on 23 different aircraft. There are a LOT of little nooks and crannies on these a/c that house a variety of different safety equipment. I still don't understand why I can never remember where the hell I put my keys, but I do know my a/c!
BUT, if the general population goes around thinking we are all sluts, and a joke, we will not get their attention when it really counts. So, while the slutty label may not apply to me -it does affect me.
