Just so you're up to speed on the latest in the Letterman/ Palin saga, we take a quick break from the Hill to give you David Letterman's rather sincere apology to Gov. Sarah Palin and her family from last night, saying "the joke can't be defended":
In a statement, Palin accepted Letterman's apology. "Of course it's accepted on behalf of young women, like my daughters, who hope men who 'joke' about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls will soon evolve."
"Letterman certainly has the right to 'joke' about whatever he wants to, and thankfully we have the right to express our reaction. And this is all thanks to our U.S. military women and men putting their lives on the line for us to secure America's right to free speech -- in this case, may that right be used to promote equality and respect."

I'm glad to see Letterman apologize for his sick joke. Now let'see if CBS can step up to the plate and take him off the air just like NBC fired Don Imus, and rightfully so. I believe this second apology was sincere, he didn't dance around it like the first one and took full responsibility.

I find his apology acceptable until the end when he excuses himself regarding perception vs. intent. We know what the moron's intent was: to embarass Governor Palin and her family -- just imagine if he gad made the "joke" about Michelle Obama and her daughters.

Let us not forget that Letterman is an actor. Yes he acted sincere but only because he was forced to. I haven't watched him in years and because of this I think there will be others who do not watch him. The liberals feel like they are riding high right now and he thought this joke would be a smashing success I'm sure. He looked more confused than contite during his apology probably because he can't figure out why it didn't fly. It gives me a little faith that America still has has a moral base left. Now Dave the wizard lets have an equally funny joke about the Obama's and maybe throw in Pelosi for good measure.

And we know what Palin's intent was when she made a damn federal case out it too, now don't we? Gotta keep herself out there ya know--she's actually starting to believe that she can save the GOP. What a dink!

Why would you inject Mrs Obama and her daughters in this crap? The Obama girls, are being reared in a home that really does have values. Not phony like the Palins. Both Obama girls are young children. Neither is unwed mother. Neither has proven to be under age drinker. Neither has vandalized school buses... There is no mention of drug use, like the oldest jail bird son of Palins... In other words, don't even try to compare the Obama's to the dysfunctional Palin family... No comparison... The so called Family Values Party... Right...

The Obama children would never be in the situation that Sarah Palin's daughter is in. Case closed.

Letterman did not apologize. He blamed people for not having the correct perception of his intent. This is called Blame Shifting a common tactic of a sociopath. Case closed.

When Sarah Palin was asked her opinion of the Iranian electioned, she said she thought that they were "real neat", and that "we ought to have something like that over here"...

Liberals will let you know who they're afraid of when they try to destroy that person.

This issue is two fold, the first being that David Letterman has a responsibility to know what is appropriate as a joke and what is not. His intent is irrelevant. At the same time, Mrs. Palin has a responsibility to her children to not put them in the public view and protect them which she seem to do for political advantage and then complain.

Seriously. After all, that one joke was aimed more at him anyway.
That was pure class on Dave's part. It's a shame he had to do it, a real shame. It's a shame that people don't see Palin for the 'actress' she is. Her performance of righteous indignation over this BS was worthy of an Oscar. It's also a shame that the PC Police jumped on this one--what next? Jon Stewart? Stephen Colbert?
Thanks Palin, thanks for being a true Conservative--you know, one who actually adheres to the Constitution, especially when it comes to free speech.

That is a very good point. Whatever one may think of A-Rod is it appropriate to suggest he was having sex with a 14 yr old? George Lopez made this point earlier today. Did Dave apologize to him too?

Welllll. Okay, no. But it was still funny. It's still just a damn JOKE!! Good grief, if people don't like Letterman's (or any other comedian's) brand of humor, turn the damn thing OFF! It's so easy--why a child could do it.

Letterman apologized and Gov. Palin accepted the apology.
Letterman's ratings will continue to decline, but Gov. Palin's will not.
Time to move on.

Now all we need is Palin to apologize for using her family in the same realm as a campaign slogan or poster. In politics if you can't take the heat don't expose your family and kids to the kitchen......
