Good morning, fellow Capitolists! A quick peek at the schedule shows it's all health care all the time in Washington today. The Dems have a plan, the Rs have a plan, even Bob Dole and Tom Daschle have a plan.

Who doesn't have a plan? The Senate Finance Committee, originally scheduled to introduce its part of the health care reform bill today, but conspicuously absent from the rundown. What gives? It's their job to answer the trillion-dollar question on health care: How are we going to pay for it? We'll let you know when they've come up with an answer. In the meantime, here's what's happening in Washington today...

10 a.m.: The House gavels into session.

10 a.m.: The Senate gavels into session and debates a bill to promote American tourism.

10 a.m.: The Senate Health Committee debates details of its health care reform bill in a markup of the legislation.

10:30 a.m.: Not to be outdone by the Dems, Republicans on Capitol Hill release their own health care reform proposal. Look for limits on malpractice lawsuits; Don't look for a public plan (not gonna be in there).

Noon: Oldies-but-goodies Bob Dole and Tom Daschle talk about bi-partisan health care reform at a Capitol Hill event.

12:50 p.m.: President Obama announces new regulations on the financial system, including an attempt to manage risk-taking by giant companies.

2:30 p.m.: Three Republican House member hold a press conference to launch the "Sunset Caucus." It's not as relaxing as it sounds though. The caucus will be "a permanent initiative to shrink the size of government by eliminating federal programs, offices and agencies." That sounds like a lot of work, but not a bad idea...

6:00 p.m.: The 21st Century Democrats hold a reception to honor Rep. Patrick Kennedy. Because of his announcement last week that he's going back to treatment for addiction, Kennedy is not expected to attend, but the Dems forge ahead with their reception nonetheless.

7:00 p.m.: Capitol Hill newspaper, Roll Call, hosts its annual Congressional baseball game, Ds vs. Rs, at the Washington Nation's home field. Real senators and congressmen suit up in their uniforms and risk joint injury for the love of the game.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
