Capitol Hill Bureau Chief
Good morning, Capitolists. It's a sad day here in the capital as authorities continue to deal with the aftermath of the
Metro train collision that killed at least seven people yesterday.
But work goes on at the White House and Capitol Hill, so here's what's happening in Washington today...
* All day: The Senate is in session, with several committees meeting to hammer out appropriations for next year's budget.
* All day: The House is in session. As in the Senate, several House committees are meeting on 2010 appropriations.
* 10:00 a.m.: The Senate Health Committee continues to work out the details of one part of the Senate's version of health-care reform.
* 11:00 a.m.: Nixon buffs rejoice! The National Archives releases more than 150 hours of White House audio recordings, featuring your slightly paranoid, beloved baritone leader hard at work in the Oval Office.
* 12:00 p.m.: The House Education and Labor Committee holds the first hearing on the House's version of health-care reform.
* 12:30 p.m.: President Obama holds his first daytime press conference in the Rose Garden. Politics Daily scribes will be on hand, so check back at PD for everything you need to know about what the prez has to say.
* 2:15 p.m.: The president meets with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.
* 2:30 p.m.: The White House holds a round-table discussion on Title IX, featuring Billie Jean King and gymnast Dominique Dawes.
That's it for now, Caps, but check back at Politics Daily for everything self-respecting Capitolists need to know today...
