Good morning, Capitolists! What's old is new again in Washington these days. Yesterday we had a sex scandal and an impeachment. Today we've got Al Gore, Howard Dean and Elizabeth Edwards on the schedule, and you just know Newt Gingrich can't be far behind. So take hope, Gov. Mark Sanford. There's no such thing as a final act in this town.
Here's what's on the program in the nation's capital today...
* All day: President Obama holds closed-door meetings with staff and cabinet members, including Tim Geithner and Hillary Clinton.
* All day: Sonia Sotomayor gets out the crutches and heads back to the Senate for more meetings with senators.
10:00 a.m.: Fed Chief Ben Bernanke testifies about what he knew and when he know it on the Bank of America/ Merrill Lynch shotgun merger.
Caps will remember that B of A chief Ken Lewis testified earlier he was told he would be fired if the merger didn't go through.
10:00 a.m.: The marathon Senate mark-up of the Kennedy health care reform bill goes on, and get comfortable Caps, Sen. Dodd said yesterday this one's going past July 4th.
10:00 a.m.: The Senate Judiciary Committee holds a hearing on the Matthew Shepard Hate Crime Prevention Act, with Attorney General Eric Holder testifying.
Lunch: Al Gore meets with Democratic senators to talk about climate change.
2:00 p.m.: President Obama meets with members of the House and Senate to talk about immigration reform.
6:30 p.m.: Get out your grass skirt: President and Mrs. Obama host a Hawaiian luau on the White House lawn for members of Congress and their families.
9:00 p.m.: Elizabeth Edwards is a guest on CNN's
