Good morning, Capitolists! It's Thursday of recess week, and if you've been paying attention you've noticed a trend in our morning updates. Namely, less on the calendar in the nation's capital as it gears up for the July 4th holiday. But even though there's less to watch, but there's still plenty worthy watching.
Here's what's happening in Washington today...
10:00 a.m.: Former Defense Secretary William Cohen speaks about the U.S./ Russian relationship. This is one of several events previewing Obama's upcoming trip to Russia. Will the president see Medvedev's soul, a la Bush?
We can only hope.
11:30 a.m.: Are you only reading this because you lost your television signal in the digital transition? The FCC's spanking new chairman, Julius Genachoski, gives an update on the DTV transition today .and you don't even need a TV to see it. Watch on
C-SPAN.org.12:00 p.m.: The Capitolist's pick for event of the day: Z-Burger in Washington is holding its first annual burger eating contest, featuring the World League of Competitive Eating's "top-ranked eater." This has nothing to do with anything, which is why we love it. Pass the ketchup.
2:20 p.m.: President Obama speaks from the Rose Garden about innovation and jobs.
8:00 p.m.: Finally, if you don't want to fight the crowds on Saturday and happen to be in Washington tonight, head to the Mall for the a dress rehearsal of the Capitol Fourth concert. Barry Manilow and Sousa marches without all the headaches- what could be better?
That's it for today, Caps. Come back to P.D. for updates, insights and general pre-fourth scoop throughout the day.
