Lest you think South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford was the only wandering politician who put his thoughts in writing, The Las Vegas Sun''s political columnist, Jon Ralston, has obtained a hand-written letter that he says is from Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) to his former mistress, Cindy Hampton.

"This is the most important letter I have ever written," Ensign begins. "What I did to you was wrong. I was completely self-centered and only thinking of myself." Despite those words of contrition, Hampton's husband, Doug, told Ralston that Ensign was pursuing his wife again just days later.

Ensign continues in the letter to say that Doug Hampton had been a great friend to him for years, "And I threw all of that away wanting to feel good." The senator also says he wants Cindy Hampton to repair her relationship with God and that he wants to do the same. Indeed.
