What, More President Obama on Television?

They're grumbling about another presidential news conference, but most of the broadcasters are going along. Except for Fox, which is opting to carry that other version of "So You Think You Can Dance?"It would be really interesting if any of the assembled reporters ask President Obama about the "birther" controversy. "Mr. President: Where were you REALLY born?"

Face it, it would be a career-maker for someone who has the, uh, chutzpah. But we'll probably get the same-old, same-old about the dull stuff: health care, health care, health care. On TV these days it's been "All Obama All The Time." Why? He wants to talk about health care.

Some of the wilder correspondents might venture into something else like the cratered economy, or Afghanistan, or North Korea. But expect lots and lots of, you guessed it, health care. Enough, perhaps, to make you sick.

As for the networks, we hear all the time that they're losing clout along with viewers. But they still have enough to coerce the White House to schedule the news conference at 8 p.m. ET, instead of 9, when the really big bucks roll in.

In addition, it gives the Cable Newsers one more hour to fill between commercials with talking automatons telling us what it all meant.

What it means is that Mr.Obama has had to abandon his detached cool and put a lot of heat on all those who are dawdling over, (What was that again?) HEALTH CARE.

So here's a quick preview of the coming attraction. President Obama will come out FOR health care reform. Some Republican will call his proposals "reckless," and then we can get back to watching mindless entertainment.

That is, of course, if we don't consider the news conference mindless entertainment. Meanwhile, let's all root for the "birther" question. Hey, White House reporters, I DARE you.
