In a case of what we can only assume is unintentional irony, Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) has created a campaign ad titled, "Luvfest," accusing Rep. Charlie Melancon (D-La.), of having a "liberal luvfest" with lobbyists at a fundraiser on Martha's Vineyard last weekend. Melancon is reportedly considering a challenge to Vitter, who is up for reelection in 2010.

Vitter wrote a note to supporters to accompany the video. "With your help," Vitter wrote, "I'll be able to fight the Obama-Melancon money machine and keep fighting for Louisiana's future in the U.S. Senate."

As a reminder, Vitter confessed to having a luvfest of his own, apologizing for "past failings" after reports that the senator had been a client of a prostitution ring in 2007.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
