Group Pushes to Overturn Gay Marriage in Maine

Do you not remember that our rights are "endowed by our CREATOR"(God) also?? This nation was based on biblical principles and even though made it to where we have "freedom of religion", the Founding Fathers said it was the religion of Christianity that was "best" in order to have a successful republic, etc. & that morals are necessary. To the Christian, God says homosexual lifestyles are an abomination to Him & all nations that practice this (legalize) will have judgements brought down on them. That's what happened to the ancient cities of Sodom & Gomorrah as a warning to future generations (for homosexuality mainly). We love these ppl, but hate the sin & not only care about what happens to them but what will happen to our nation - and btw, has already started!! What "standard" do you use when making these laws? Traditionally, it was the Bible. The humongous problem now is that too many have rebelled against this & don't want "God" in anything. We now have a President & Admin. who are in rebellion to this also. Abortion is another abomination that the Pres. endorses. It's not a sin to be born that way or whatever - only when it's practiced/lust - just like heteros re sexual sins. It's a choice. And God expects all of us w/problems to come to Him & He'll heal & make you able to deal w/whatever life deals you. But too few believe that or even hear that. These aren't the only terrible sins this country is guilty of - others as well. May God have mercy on us all.

People should just leaves things the way they stand. Sure, many people were against this Maine proposition, but the majority voted was reached in favor of the legalization of gay marriage. Just drop it already. You aren't going to be able to change the minds of enough people, anyways. It's been less than just a few months, and people already expect that everyone has changed their mind.

Besides which, marriage shouldn't be the choice of the state or federal legislature. As a part of the church, I can't see any seperation of church and state, here.

Why are gay people ALWAYS angry? Barney Frank seems to always get his way, and yet he is so miserable. Is THIS what you consider the "pursuit of happiness?" Since you mentioned the Constitution--the LEGISLATIVE branch makes LAWS. The Judicial interprets the LAWS made by the people. Therefore, it is within the framework of our nation for the citizens to vote for or against how their state recognizes marriage. It is not up to some looney judge.

Smile, be thankful for each and every day you are alive. But don't expect the minority to control the majority. This doesn't happen in a democracy.

Since when? Since the beginning of this country, or didn't you ever take a civics class in school? We aren't a "direct democracy" for the very reason issues like this have to be take out of the hands of the electorate. Even our founders were smart enough to see that "mob rule" is rarely fair and never just. That is why the chose to set up a government where the "mob" has a say, but not the definitive voice. That's why we are a REPRESENTATIVE democracy, so that those with the training and education and objectivity (presumably)would be in the position to keep the "mob" in check in these times of heated and emotional battles. If the majority always had its way, we would still have slavery, blacks and women would still lack the basic right to vote, we would still have a permanent segregated class and be remain the opposite of our motto "land of the free" even today. The examples of minority triumph for the better in our nations history are plentiful, if you just open your eyes to it. You should thank your lucky stars that the founders had the foresight to see that we needed protection from ourselves, because you live and breath the protections you very well may not have had today if our country weren't set up the way it is. The majority have the influence of the vote, but representatives have the obligation to know when our desired "rights" are infringing on others, and gay marriage is a perfect example of that exact scenario. Your rights end when you infringe on the rights of others. Unless you want someone else infringing on YOUR rights and freedoms, you really should tread carefully.

boredwelll, I take it you dont care if your state makes all the decisions for you? It should be taken to the people to vote on. While I dont have a problem with Gay Marriage, I still think that WE THE PEOPLE have a right to GO AND VOTE on ALL ISSUES.

No hate or venom, just the niece of two uncles, one biological and one his partner. One very open in his sexuality and one very quiet about it. My uncle is 62, his life partner of 30 years is 76 and a 20 year Navy veteran. Needless to say he is the quiet one but he alway worried about my uncle and what would happen if he, the partner, died. Well, he did everything he could legally to protect their assets and he did a power of attorney so my uncle could be the decision maker if the time ever came. Well, last year he was diagnosised with Alzheimer's disease and thing progressed very fast. When he dies, my uncle will have to pay taxes on everything they built together, he will not be able to receive the military pension or health care that a spouse who receive. Do you think you gay friends would have a problem with that? I do. What we need is a system whereby life partners, home or hetrosexual, can inherit and it has to be a federal law. There is a great documentary called "Freeheld" that shows how the change was made in New Jersey. I don't know if we have to call it marriage after all their are many "Christians" that don't consider my hetrosexual marriage valid because it was performed outside of a church and by a local judge and in their eyes I am a pervert. You have a weird interpretation of our country's founding. You've taken 'creator' and 'morality' and run with them to places never envisioned by the Founders. Whatever their religion happened to be, they never had any intent of making anyone else follow that religion, and certainly NEVER wanted to enact laws reflecting any particular religion.

Our Constitution and laws are based on ancient Roman law, Greek law, the English Constitution - consisting of Magna Carta, Bill of Rights and Petition of Right - and those moral laws common to all great religions; i.e., Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism.

Your particular religious beliefs are just that: yours. Others may think differently, and that is just as valid. So please don't take your beliefs and try to browbeat us all into changing our viewpoints and our acceptance of all different kinds of people.
