Cash-Strapped California is Having a 'Garage Sale'

The garage sale is a tried and true method of raising some quick cash while clearing out the clutter that accumulates over the years. Both birds are the targets of the latest stone being thrown by the Golden State as it combats budgetary woes: The first ever "Great California Garage Sale" will be held Friday and Saturday in Sacramento.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the event, and has advertised some of its offerings, on eBay and Craigslist:
"By posting items online, Californians and people from other states and around the world can participate in the Great California Garage Sale. This is a win-win for the state and for shoppers. Together we are eliminating waste and providing great deals in this tough economy. I encourage everyone to log on or attend this great event."
So, what do you need? Cars, laptops, phones, pianos, jewelry, surfboards? If the California Highway Patrol seized something in an arrest over the past few years, it could be for sale now. But buyers beware: As with most garage sales, there are no returns, no exchanges, and no guarantees for the merchandise.

If your Internet connection is down, or you happen to be near 1700 National Drive in Sacramento, the hours for the sale are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, and 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday, with a car preview on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

One of the vehicles being offered is an '02 Ford Crown Victoria whose visor is signed by Schwarzenegger himself. The current eBay bid is just $3,051.01, so act now -- California is counting on you.
