Feminist Milestone? Girl Has Game-Winning Hit in Little League World Series

Katie Reyes, you play ball like a girl. By which I mean, of course, that you win games.

ESPN reports that the 13-year-old Canadian's single pushed Vancouver past a team from Germany, 14-13, in the Little League World Series on Wednesday. Officials say it's the first time in the event's history that a girl has had a game-winning hit. Girls have played in the championship tournament for the last 25 years, though the number is small -- only 15, including Reyes.

"I was so excited, I was shaking," she said of her final hit.

Lest anyone think that Reyes is just a one-hit wonder, her game-winner was one of three hits she had during the game, and she drove in three runs. She also caught the final out for her team, stretching for a throw at first base.
