Florida GOP Chair Says Obama Rewrote Back-to-School Speech

Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer accused President Obama of changing the speech he delivered to schoolchildren yesterday after conservative outrage put the address in the spotlight. He said that the attention had forced Obama to give a more neutral speech, rather than the politically motivated one he originally intended.

"Clearly last week there was a plan with the Department of Education," Greer told CNN on Monday. "When you ask students to write a letter to the president on how we can help you with your new ideas, Mr. President, that is leading the students in an effort to push the president's agenda. Now that the White House got their hand in the cookie jar caught, they changed everything, they redid the lesson plans, they released the text."

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
