California Assemblyman
Mike Duvall, from conservative Orange County, resigned Wednesday after the "family values" Republican was videotaped telling another lawmaker about his separate affairs with two women lobbyists.
A microphone, left on during a break in a July 8 session, caught Duvall oversharing with a colleague about how he enjoys spanking one of the ladies because, he told her, "you're such a bad girl." Shortly after the tape was leaked to and broadcast
by local CBS news affiliate KCAL, Duvall, who is married, issued a
statement denying he had cheated, but admitting he was guilty of "engaging in inappropriate story-telling" and now regrets his "language and choice of words." According to the
Wall Street Journal, Duvall was honored by Chapman University in 2000 with the
Ethics in America Award citing his "demonstration of the highest standards of ethical integrity."
