Mrs. Joe Wilson Stands by Her Man

I have a soft spot in my heart for wives forced to endure humiliation to bolster a husband's career after he has behaved like a jackass. Denial begins at home. Hilary's right-wing conspiracy speech was the classic. Silda Wall's stoicism became a standard. Larry Craig's wife Suzanne displayed western grit, and Jenny Sandford showed all the ladies (first and otherwise) how to woman up.
With Mrs. Joe Wilson's ad defending her husband's unstifled enthusiasm during President Obama's address before Congress last week, the goal of the "Don't Say Nothin' Bad About My Baby" model has morphed from softening the publicity of bad personal behavior to recasting disastrous political acts.
Capitolist Patricia Murphy has Roxanne Wilson's video here telling YouTube visitors her Joe is just an excitable boy. His outburst was a bit too "passionate," but he is a "wonderful father" with an "incredible work ethic" who's "always had an interest in politics." It will probably work, too. I have to admit the piano solo sound track sure made me want to move on from the subject of Joe's finger-wagging moment.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
