Eighty-four percent of Americans believe the economy is still in recession, but 65 percent believe it will improve over the next year, according to a
USA Today/Gallup poll conducted Sept. 11-13. Twenty-three percent predict the economy will remain in a recession in the next year and 12 percent expect it to get worse.

The optimism is tempered by the fact the 20 percent are very worried and another 41 percent somewhat worried that another economic crash could happen over the next 12 months.
Democrats are the most optimistic about economic recovery, with 85 percent saying it will be better a year from now, compared to 57 percent for independents and 50 percent for Republicans.
Seventy-four percent of Democrats believe President Obama's policies have made the economy better. Thirty-five percent of independents agree with that, but 38 percent say those policies have made no difference and 26 percent say they have made the economy worse. Fifty-four percent of Republicans say Obama's policies have made things worse while 31 percent say they have made no difference.
