The U.S. will withdraw 4,000 troops from Iraq by the end of October, the top U.S. commander in the country revealed in an advance copy of his testimony before the House Armed Services Committee set for Wednesday. Gen. Ray Odierno will also say that the U.S. is on track to remove all troops by September 2010.
"We have approximately 124,000 troops and 11 Combat Teams operating in Iraq today. By the end of October, I believe we will be down to 120,000 troops in Iraq," Odierno's testimony reads.
Odierno also said that the number of U.S. contractors in Iraq had dropped by about 30,000, saving $441 million.
