Republican Kelly Ayotte leads Democrat Paul Hodes by 41 percent to 34 percent with 25 percent undecided for the New Hampshire senate seat that opened up with the announced retirement of GOP Sen. Judd Gregg, according to an American Research Group poll conducted Sept. 25-29. The margin of error is 4.1 points.

Both Ayotte, a former state Attorney General, and Hodes, a first-term congressman, command equal amounts of support among voters in their own parties, but Ayotte is leading among unaffiliated voters by 34 percent to 17 percent with 49 percent undecided.
