The two top names floated for next year's governor's race in Delaware still have not said if they will run, but if they do nine-term Rep. Michael Castle leads Democrat Beau Biden, the state's Attorney General, 47 percent to 42 percent with 6 percent undecided and 3 percent preferring someone else, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted Sept. 30. The margin of error is 4.5 points.
Biden, son of Vice President Joseph Biden, has just returned home from a yearlong tour of duty in Iraq with the Army National Guard. Castle has yet to say if he will try for the seat.
Marketing consultant and political commentator Christine O'Donnell has announced she'll try for the GOP nomination, but matched against Biden, she trails 49 percent to 40 percent.
Biden is seen favorably by 60 percent of voters and unfavorably by 32 percent. Castle scores similar numbers, with 61 percent regarding him favorably and 34 percent unfavorably. An equal percentage of voters – 36 percent – see O'Donnell favorably and unfavorably, but 19 percent don't know enough about her to have an opinion.
In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around.
