Todd Palin Quits Oil Job to Spend Time With Family

Todd Palin, the husband of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, quit his job with U.K. oil giant BP PLC, effective Sept. 18, the Associated Press reported Monday. Megan Stapleton, Sarah Palin's personal spokeswoman, explained that Todd Palin left the North Slope oil fields to spend more time with his family. Echoing the couple's campaign emphasis on Todd being a union member, Stapleton added that he "loved his union job" and "hopes to return."

The job announcement comes a few months after Sarah Palin resigned her position to work on her first book, a deal rumored to be worth multiple millions of dollars. She is also widely rumored to be receiving six-figure offers for speeches. Todd Palin earned nearly $34,472 working part-time for BP last year on top of the $51,769 he made in the family's commercial fishing business. He also reported $5,600 in snowmobile race winnings, and has received undisclosed amounts in racing sponsorship money from Arctic Cat.

Todd began a leave of absence from BP when Sarah took office in 2006 because of their busy schedule as first family. He returned to work in 2007.
