Obama Gets Post-Nobel Bounce, But It May Not Last

President Obama's job approval for the last two Gallup tracking polls has rebounded to 56 percent after hitting a low of 50 percent last week and 53 percent in the survey taken just before it was announced he had won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Gallup says that "odds are the bump will not last, since the improvement in his rating from his term-low 50% early last week has come exclusively among independents and Republicans, who are less likely to stay loyal to the president."

Obama's positive marks from Republicans went up from 12 percent in the Oct. 3-5 survey to 20 percent in the most recent one, conducted Oct. 9-11. Among independents, it rose from 46 percent to 55 percent. Approval of Obama among Democrats remained the same at 83 percent.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
