Click here to visit the new home of Politics Daily!Republican Chris Christie is leading Gov. Jon Corzine by 45 percent to 41 percent with 9 percent for independent Chris Daggett and 5 percent undecided in a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted Oct. 14, but the pollster notes that 57 percent of Daggett supporters could change their minds by Election Day.
Two other polls this week -- one by Quinnipiac University and the other by Public Policy Polling -- had Christie just one point ahead of Corzine.
Rasmussen says a plurality of Daggett backers and undecided voters indicated they were likely to swing to Christie. But the pollster also notes that historically in New Jersey, Democratic candidates typically pick up strength closer to Election Day and they benefit by stronger get-out-the-vote efforts by the party.
By 9 points or more, voters favor Christie over Corzine on the issues of taxes, cutting government spending and cracking down on corruption.
Politico has a piece today on the Daggett factor in the New Jersey race.
