Washington in 60 Seconds: Not Much California Love for Pelosi; Reid to 'Vaporize' His Opponent?

Good morning, Capitolists! Give us 60 seconds and we'll give you the capital. Here's what's making news in Washington today:

    * The president meets with Iraqi President Nouri al Maliki at the White House this morning and then hops a flight to NYC for two fundraisers and a tour of a counter-terrorism facility.

    * The House is in session, with votes after 6:30 tonight.

    * The Senate is in session and debating the "doc fix." Come back to the Capitolist this morning to find out exactly what that is.

    * A slew of hearings on Capitol Hill today:
--Elizabeth Edwards (yes, that Elizabeth Edwards) testifies on medical debt and bankruptcies to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
-- The Senate Banking Committee looks at the sorry state of the housing market.
-- The House Financial Services Committee works on its financial regulation overhaul.

    * A new Washington Post poll shows a majority of Americans now support a public option in health care, but independents support a government plan only if it's limited to people who can't get coverage elsewhere and if it's run at the state level.

    * Wall Streeters may be getting bonuses this year, but they're not signing them over to the president. One Greenwich, Conn., resident tells The New York Times, "The investment community feels very put-upon."

    * Where's the love, California? A new Field poll shows just 34 percent of Californians approve of the job that the state's own Nancy Pelosi is doing. According to The Hill, the results showed Dems happy, Republicans not so much, and only 39 percent of independents saying that the House speaker is doing a good job in Washington.

    * And finally, advisers to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have a plan to win in 2010, and it's not pretty. One anonymous member of the Reid team tells Politico's Manu Raju, "I expect [Reid] to vaporize [Sue] Lowden or [Danny] Tarkanian or whoever is the opponent." Yikes.
