McDonnell Has Double-Digit Leads in Two More Polls

It's starting to get an "Is there an echo in here?" quality, but two more polls show the Virginia governor's race being firmly in the hands of Republican Bob McDonnell.

A Suffolk University poll (link not available yet) conducted Oct. 26-28 says McDonnell leads Deeds 52 percent to 40 percent with 8 percent undecided. A Roanoke College poll conducted Oct. 21-27 has the margin even larger with McDonnell leading 53 percent to 36 percent. Both polls were of likely voters.

The Suffolk poll says 84 percent of voters have their minds made up while 15 percent might change.

As recent Rasmussen Reports polls have found, McDonnell leads Deeds by comfortable margins on top issues such as the state's economy, taxes, transportation and education in the Roanoke poll. Voters say by 63 percent to 20 percent with 18 percent undecided. that Deeds would be more like to raise taxes. In the Suffolk poll, voters said by 43 percent to 32 percent with 25 percent undecided that Deeds has flip-flopped on the issue of taxes, a point hammered at in McDonnell's campaign ads.

Voters in both polls say Deeds has run a more negative campaign than McDonnell.
