Forty-two percent of North Carolinians say they'd rather see someone else besides first-term GOP Sen. Richard Burr win next year's election while 19 percent say he deserves to return to Washington, according to an Elon University poll conducted Oct. 26-29. Thirty-six percent said they were not sure or undecided.

Thirty-seven percent approved of the job Burr was doing compared to 22 percent who disapproved, but there was a large "don't know" contingent (41 percent) considering that Burr is an incumbent.

Forty-percent say they are satisfied with how Burr has represented the state compared to 22 percent who are dissatisfied and 36 percent who don't know.
