Now that the health care reform legislation moves toward the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid may have one ace-in-the-hole as he tries to put together a 60-vote front to get the measure to the Senate floor. The Daily Beast says that is Connecticut Democrat-turned-independent Joseph Lieberman.

While the Daily Beast says both camps deny any deal has been reached for Lieberman's support, Lieberman has been uncharacteristically loyal to Reid. It quotes the Las Vegas Sun which noted that "Lieberman owes his committee chairmanship (Homeland Security) to Reid after the majority leader declined to punish him-as some Democrats wanted-for his support of Republican Sen. John McCain in last year's presidential election."

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
